PARI Pharma's Nebulized DSCG Shows Results Similar To Inhaled Steroids In Asthma Studies Presented At ATS
This week, Swiss researchers presented positive data from an ongoing Phase II clinical study at the American Thoracic Society (ATS) International Conference that compared PARI Pharma"s inhaled IsoCrom, an isotonic 1% disodium cromoglycate (DSCG) solution, to inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) in 28 children with atopic asthma. Results showed decreases in mean asthma symptom scores without a change in lung function for both groups. These results were achieved with IsoCrom administered via a customized small droplet Investigational eFlow Nebulizer System designed to deliver drugs to the deep lungs. One of the benefits of DSCG is the long track record as an extremely safe drug.

Recent Release: NASTAD, Kaiser Family Foundation Report Provides 'Inventory' Of HIV Prevention Efforts In The U.S.
The National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors and the Kaiser Family Foundation released a report that "provides the first, comprehensive inventory of HIV prevention efforts at the state and local levels" and is based on a survey of 65 state health departments, including all state and territorial jurisdictions and six U.S. cities. The report "is intended to offer a baseline picture of how HIV prevention is delivered across the country. ... " ("The National HIV Prevention Inventory: The State of HIV Prevention Across the U.S.," July 2009).

Terrence Higgins Trust Scotland Urges Young Men In Argyll & Bute To Test For Chlamydia And Gonorrhoea
A new campaign has just been launched encouraging young men in Argyll & Bute aged 16 - 24 to get tested for chlamydia and gonorrhoea. The scheme, run by Terrence Higgins Trust Scotland and funded by NHS Highland, aims to reduce undiagnosed sexually transmitted infections (STIs) amongst young men because research suggests they are much less likely to get checked out.

Nottingham University Selects Simplexo Enterprise For Five Year Clinical Trial, UK

Simplexo Enterprise, an enterprise search tool, has been selected by Nottingham University to enable the retrieval of information across a five-year clinical trial by its Division of Stroke Medicine into the causes and effects of strokes. The trial team is gathering and analysing information from more than 500 patients and several governing bodies in over 20 countries, including the UK, the United States, China, India and Australia. Searching for information gathered in multiple formats over a five year period in a clinical trials environment is both a complex and critical requirement. The success of the research depends not only on the clinical elements of the trial itself, but also on the smooth handling of data during and after the trial. Documentation is generated in many different formats - a mix of electronic file types, faxes and handwritten documents. Trial managers around the globe require access to the latest information in order to inform their decisions and associated research. Nottingham University therefore needed a tool that could access multiple and diverse data s accurately, securely and in real time. They chose Simplexo. Professor Bath, Head of Division, confirmed: "We wanted to make sure that all our team members had access to the most up to date information at all times, and because so much of our research is undertaken abroad, they should have the same search capabilities whether working centrally or in remote locations."
